Several international cooperation organizations that promote women’s rights throughout the world set up booths to present their achievements and publications.
On Thursday, March 6, was the official launch of the photography exhibit "30 years of engagement : 10 major advances for women’s rights !"
As part of the conference, we wanted to showcase the achievements of the different CQFD member ICOs, and highlight the projects that were successful at creating positive change in the area of women’s rights throughout the world. Photographs illustrating ten major such changes were exhibited in the Centre Saint-Pierre lobby as of March 6, until the end of the month.
Panel 1 : Southern women’s voices
Panel 2 : Overview panel – 30 years of challenges and accomplishments in women’s rights
Panel 3 : Outlook panel – Defending women’s rights after 2014
Participants could choose among the 12 workshops offered :
• Six awareness-building workshops
In the awareness-building workshops, participants could learn about initiatives carried out in developing countries for various issues related to women’s rights (culture and religion vs. women’s rights, trafficking, militarization, the mining industry, etc.)
• Six training workshops
The training workshops were designed to improve participants’ abilities to consider a gender approach in project management (non-sexist writing, integrating a gender approach in public engagement, assessing gender-sensitive projects, etc.). They provided participants with strategies and best practices.
In partnership with the Festival Vues d’Afrique, we offered the screening of the documentary "Taxi sister" on Friday, March 7 at 6 pm. This movie was directed by Theresa Traore Dahlberg, in 2011. Its duration is 28 minutes. At the end of the film, a draw allowed participants to win 10 free tickets to the 30th anniversary of the Festival Vues d’Afrique, taking place from April 25 to May 4, 2014, in Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa.
